This Festival is a celebration of local food and crafts with Partridgeberry and Harvest themes, including a Bake-off competition, Farmers and Crafts Marketplace, and of course delicious foods to eat. A berry-based menu is in the works again.

The Children’s tent will delight all ages with games and projects such as boatbuilding, mermaid doll decorating, bowling, button-making and more.

The Fogo Island Partridgeberry Harvest Festival is an initiative of the Shorefast Foundation, a Canadian-registered charity that is using entrepreneurial methods to help secure prosperity for the region of Fogo Islands and Change Islands.

2008 Festival Story

Fogo Island is the home of the Partridgeberry Harvest Festival – a celebration of the islands berry bests! The barrens of Fogo Island are covered in partridgeberries, as well as many other types of berries, and islanders felt is was time to celebrate their good fortune.

“The festival empowered people to see viable economic opportunities for themselves using Island grown berries and vegetables, which is what we set out to do,” says Jonathan Briggs who helped organize last year’s festival.

Produced and run entirely by volunteers, the Partridgeberry Festival was a huge success. There were over 120 entries for the bake-off, produce and arts and crafts competitions. “The standard in all categories was very high and there is clearly a huge amount of talent just waiting to be released here,” says Briggs.

Entertainment, demonstrations and health talks also took centre stage throughout the festival. Festival planning for 2010 is in full swing, and this year we are planning new activities and events, and anticipate even more community interest.
